We’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year with lots of time for quilting and stitching….
– oOo –
A quick reminder that our programme starts on Thursday February 7th –
there is no January meeting –
and we’ll be taking bookings for the Soup & Sewing Day on March 9th at that meeting.
Staffs Patchworkers wish everyone a happy Christmas and an excellent New Year
Seasonally cold weather outside, warm with mince pies inside – our December meeting had the usual good attendance. Silly goody bags were presented to everyone as they came in. Each goody bag contained a cracker, token chocolate for emergencies, instructions for 2 quick Christmas decorations, a tiny kit of pre-cut triangles to stitch back together into hexagon shapes, and a handmade needle case. Entries for the Chairman’s Challenge were displayed, a good Show & Tell, a 12 prize raffle, together with a clearout table of magazines and books completed the proceedings. Chairman’s Challenge prizes were awarded – the first 3 by viewer’s choice and one each from Angie’s Quilts and ZigZags. Two door prizes too! Our photo archive books were on display for anyone who wanted to turn back they years and see what some of us were doing at previous December meetings. Lots of chat, a little bit of stitching and sterling work by Irene and Margaret in the kitchen keeping everyone supplied with tea, coffee, fruit cup, cake, mince pies and biscuits.
The theme for the Chairman’s Challenge this year was “Seeing Red”. A small piece of red fabric was supplied and the rules were that this fabric had to be visible on the front of the finished piece. Other red fabrics could be added, any other colours could be added, any technique or mix of techniques could be used, and the finished piece/item was not to exceed 24inches on any side. Fairly straightforward really! Here’s a random selection of Chairman’s Challenge entries, beginning with Viewer’s Choice –
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Challenge.
We wish everyone a happy Christmas and a wonderful quilting year in 2013.
