A timely reminder of our Soup & Sewing Day on Saturday 9th March – bring your own project to work on, help out with some stitching for Project Linus, generally have a good time. A lunch of home-made veggie soup, bread and selected cheeses is included in the price, together with the usual refreshments of tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Book your place at our AGM meeting which is Thursday 7th March.
An excellent attendance for our February meeting and a good time was had by all. Our speaker was Anne Jeater and it was fascinating to hear her talk about her particular quilting interests and give us the background to quilts she has made. Our folding quilt frames were quite full by the time she had finished! Lots of interest and lots of questions = always good.
We were also treated to a viewing of Marian’s quilt made over the course of 2 years at Caverswall Quilt Cave and Angie’s Quilt Shop – a real heirloom piece, based on Pauline Ineson’s book. Here’s a tiny detail –
Thanks to Irene and Hilary for their usual sterling work to help the meeting run smoothly, and to Margery for her efficient raffle organisation. Next month it will be “all change” at our AGM – we have nominations for Secretary and Treasurer, but as yet, no volunteers/nominations for Chairman. Without someone in this post, SPQ is non-constitutional and will cease to exist. The post could be for one year only … feel free to contact Barbara if there is anything you would like to discuss before the AGM. We will also need a willing pair of volunteers to continue Margery’s raffle work as she is planning on stepping aside after a very long period of “office”. Again, please contact Barbara if you think you could take this on.
Once the AGM business is taken care of, we are going to return to Log Cabin Fever – a slightly silly practical-based session that was hugely popular last year. Come prepared to pick up strips of fabric, queue up, sit down, sew …. Remember, the AGM meeting is free admission. Bring your mug for tea or coffee and whatever you need for retail therapy as we hope to have ZigZags, Angie’s Quilt Shop and The Corner Patch in attendance.
March 7th is the date to put in your diary!
Our first meeting of the year is Thursday 7th February. Usual time – 7.15 – 9.30, usual place – President’s Hall, Walton Community Centre, Whitemill Lane, Stone ST15 0EQ. Usual things – raffle, show & tell, retail therapy courtesy of The Corner Patch. Sign-up sheets available for our Soup & Sewing Day on Saturday 9th March. Main feature of the evening will be our speaker, Anne Jeater. Anne is a prize-winning quilter with a special interest in traditional quilts and has been involved in quilting, The Quilters Guild, Poynton Quilters and other groups for more years than she cares to remember. Remember to bring your mug for tea or coffee – see you there!
