“African Blues” was the title of Magie Relph’s talk at our October meeting. More than sixty of us sat spellbound as she told the story of indigo and some of the people who work with it. Wonderful slides from her travels in Africa were followed by gorgeous cloths, woven and/or dyed with indigo and Magie was extremely generous in passing around lots of examples to handle.
Our Show & Tell session before Magie’s talk included this vibrant hexagon top
probably 1880 – 90, silks and velvets, some deterioration but pristine colours including a fabulous fuchsia around the edge.
One of the fabrics printed at our Soup, Sewing & Sixties day had already been made into a bag
This bag arrived too late for Show & Tell –
All the Chairman’s Challenge packs have now been taken – remember the deadline is our Christmas meeting. Our next meeting is Thursday 1st November when Maggie Birchenough will be our main “turn”, leading us through the delights of felting with kits for everyone to try it for themselves.
